Jed is a professional kayaker and photographer. When not traveling he calls Portland, Oregon “home”. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Jed lived in Beijing in 1996 while studying.
Jed spent the summers of 2005 and 2006 in the Arctic photographing life in, on and under the ice for two articles in National Geographic. His photographs, many of which chronicle river trips such as his expedition on India’s Brahmaputra River, appear in such publications as: The New York Times, National Geographic Adventure, Men’s Journal, Paddler, Canoe & Kayak Session. His photographs also appear in a feature article about China in the “Green Issue” of Outside Magazine.
Jed has filmed trips on the Futaleufu River in Chile, worked as a co-cameraman on the production of “The Yunnan Great Rivers Expedition” film and the Discovery Channel’s “Adventure Bhutan”. He has paddled rivers in Chile, Central America, India, Asia and all across North America. Jed has a plethora of knowledge, on and off the river and adds greatly to all Tarkio adventures he is able to be a part of.
